Tata Group Chairman and prominent business tycoon Ratan Tata was awarded with an honorary doctorate by the University of Manchester on Friday. The UK university awarded the 82-year-old industrialist for his contribution to philanthropy and innovation. Ratan Tata was awarded with the Honorary Degree of Enterprise at Mumbai during the India tour of President and Vice Chancellor of University of Manchester — Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell.The citation by Manchester University notes that under Ratan Tata’s leadership, the TATA Group became a global name from 1991 to 2012 and went on to acquire major international brands such as Tetley, Daewoo, Corus, Jaguar and Land Rover.
